On 28 December 2007 the marine police of Bali confiscated 12 living Green Sea Turtles ( Chelonia mydas) at Ketut Sumerta house at Banjar Pasekan, Ketewel, Gianyar-Bali. The turtles were supposed to be used for satay lawar a traditional Balinese dish. The police is still investigating who the supplier of the turtles was.
On Saturday 29 December 2007 ten of the sea turtles were tagged and released on Kuta beach where they received a lot of attention from tourists. Two of the turtles had to be kept by the police for the time being as they will be needed as evidence in the Court trial.
