"After 3 and a half weeks of working here I now understand not only why the Loggerhead is protected because of its endangered species status but also because it is an incredible creature. The first turtle that I was lucky enough to see nest appeared on July 15^th and I can easily say that it was one of the most amazing moments of my life. As soon as the turtle was spotted I was captivated by its pure brilliance and magnificent beauty."

We are very pleased that we have been able to start early this season. . . Our local assistants and few volunteers that already started to arrive (both local and foreign) have done a fab job so far, doing what they can to ensure that the beaches are protected most of the night.

Up to 10 years ago, an average of 20,000 sea turtles were slaughtered on Bali to provide meat for "ritual purposes". As a result of the dedication of tourists, sea turtle conservationists, and local conservation groups a ban on killing sea turtles was implemented. But now the government plans to allow the slaughter of 1000 sea turtles annually, a number that will be impossible to enforce and will result in much greater slaughter. YOU CAN HELP:

Am 14. August 2009 wurde in Anwesenheit seiner Exzellenz Eddy Pratomo, Botschafter der Republik Indonesien in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, im Berliner AquaDom zum ersten Mal der von der Berliner Gesellschaft für Großaquarien (BGG) gestiftete Blue Starfish Award verliehen.

On the 14th of August 2009 in the presence of his His Excellency Eddy Pratomo, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia in Germany the Blue Starfish Award was imparted for the first time in the Berlin AquaDom.
