We purchased a new speedboat for our sea turtle protection project in the Derawan archipelago in the waters of eastern Borneo, Indonesia. The boat was urgently needed for the transportation of our rangers and logistic supply to and from our project islands Bilang-Bilangan and Mataha, where we continuously protect nesting beaches of the green sea turtle from egg poaching. The two motors with 40 hp each are an important safety feature for our rangers that minimises the risk to get in distress on sea because of engine failure; in such a case, one motor is still able to bring our guys back home. A short video about one of the last test drives before leaving for the islands can be watched on our Facebook page.
We are extremely grateful to all our donors, friends, and supporters who enabled this important and urgent equipment acquisition!
