From the end of June to the beginning of July, all leading employees of Yayasan Penyu Indonesia (YPI) came together in Malang on the island of Java as part of a team-building programme. A total of four participants from the head office in Bali, seven project coordinators from the YPI locations and three future team members gathered at the Petungsewu Wildlife Education Centre (PWEC) from June 29 to July 2, 2024.
Mix of activities and knowledge transfer
The training for our Indonesian sister organisation was a balanced mix of lectures and workshops as well as playful training sessions. The team’s aim was to expand knowledge and conservation skills, strengthen the sense of togetherness within YPI, and at the same time learn problem-solving skills that are helpful in day-to-day work.
Side by side with like-minded people
The special thing about this meeting in Malang was that the entire project coordination team for all Indonesian projects gathered in one place for the first time. After all, the locations of Simeulue (Sumatra) and Tanjung Rejeb (Borneo) are separated by around 2,000 kilometres as the crow flies. Previously, a personal exchange was not that easy. The event, which lasted several days, therefore provided the opportunity to meet (new) colleagues and at the same time benefit from synergy effects, as the different locations face similar challenges in their work.
Focus on professionalising the organisation
Since this spring, the YPI has increasingly focused on establishing professional organisational structures. Various measures are planned until the end of March 2026 to further advance the professional qualifications of our employees.
