Turtle Times: The August newsletter 2017 of our Boavista team

These are the topics of the August issue of the Turtle Times, the newsletter of our Boavista team:

• Middle of season: Despite the record year 2016 we were surprised by an unusually high number of nesting sea turtles on Boavista’s beaches. There was a lot to do…
• Hatchery: In addition to the hatchery on Lacacão Beach, where nests are rescued from the detrimental effects of a large hotel situated directly on the beach, we have for the first time set up a hatchery on the beach of Boa Esperança. There, the influences of natural nest predators, mainly crabs, on hatching success are to be investigated. Due to the high number of nesting turtles, both hatcheries were full very quickly…
• Front Team: We introduce you the coordinators of our five beach camps.
• Anniversary of the Turtle Foundation: With a big party at the Boa Esperança Camp, our entire team celebrated the 10th nesting season on Boavista and the fifth birthday of our local organization Fundação Tartaruga.
